The first time Shannon came to Choir Camp was as an elementary camper, and she has been dancing in churches for her whole life. As a professional she has been teaching dance in Houston for more than 12 years, and working with theater productions in the area for 15. She have also been working one on one with functional mobility clients with a focus on degenerative chronic illnesses such as MS and fibromyalgia for more than 10 years.

Born in Richmond, TX, Shannon Doerr graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from Sam Houston State University in 2013, during her time at SHSU Shannon had the opportunity to work with well-known choreographers such as Gina Bolles Sorensen, Dana Nicolay, Dominic Walsh, Andy and Dionne Noble. Shannon trained in ballet, jazz, modern, partnering, improvisation, Irish, swing, and pointe.

While in college Shannon’s mother was injured, spurring them to start actively developing methodologies for individuals with long term health goals. When injury, repetitive stress, or chronic illness makes even the most mundane of tasks a mountain and you need a bit of help finding a new way of doing things, working with a functional mobility trainer can relieve pain and get you headed in the direction you want to go.

From the youngest child to the oldest grandparent everyone has the innate need to move to music, and Shannon loves to help that bloom into a joy of dancing (ask about ASD & ADHD in Dance) and finding the healing in movement we tend to forget. They look forward to working with people of all ages, and hope to inspire students as much as her teachers inspired them.
